Stories from Irma: Youth For Christ, KIX, "Open without power."

October 10, 2017

“Open without power.”

Providing shelter, food, and showers, for several families served  Youth For Christ, KIX stayed open throughout the storm even though they were without power. Located in the middle of a tri-gang area, the safety and availability of their property and the shelter of their children served is crucial for their ministry to be trusted and effective. So the idea of shutting down was unthinkable, and their ability to support their families throughout and immediately after the storm is what has come to be expected from the loved and trusted organization. Through our Angel Relief Fund we were able to provide $5,000 of emergency funding to ensure the continuation of critical services to vulnerable children and their families.

How can you help now?

They did sustain major fence damage on their property and with the fence being crucial to keeping children safe while they play outside, they are in desperate need of repairs. They also wish to support their families who are without work with backpacks filled with food and necessities throughout the coming weeks. KIX also currently has no outdoor storage for maintenance and lawn supplies, as well as outdoor activities and are hoping for a 1/2 sized shipping crate that would not only house all of these supplies but also serve as a canvas for their students to spray paint and design as a creative outlet.
